Why I love this Recipe so Much
If you’ve ever been to Mexico, you’ve probably encountered chamois. These perfumes are sold everywhere in some form. But other store-bought products are filled with high-fructose corn syrup, artificial colors and additives.
This Sugar Free Chamoy Sauce recipe is super healthy! They are made with natural fruits and no artificial ingredients. It’s vegan, gluten-free and oil-free making it suitable for almost any dietary need or preference. Plus, it can easily be made without sugar.

Sugar Free Chamoy Sauce
Equipment
- Kitchen shears
- Saucepan
- Blender
- Spatula
Ingredients
- 2 ancho chiles
- 1 cup dried apricots
- ½ cup dried plums pitted
- 2 tablespoons tamarind paste
- ½ cup flor de Jamaica
- ¼ cup cane sugar
- 2 teaspoons sea salt
- 4 cups water
- ¼ cup lime juice
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne powder
Instructions
Step 1
- Plant and seed the ancho chiles. In a medium saucepan, add chiles, dried fruit, fleur de Jamaica, cane sugar, salt and water. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, then reduce to a simmer for about half an hour to allow the flavors to release and combine.
For an extra spicy sauce, you can leave the seeds in. Just make sure the sauce doesn’t get so thick.
Step 2
- When the fruit is soft and the mixture seems ready, turn off the oven and let it cool. Place everything in a blender and blend the ingredients on high until smooth.
Cooling the mixture for a few minutes before transferring it to a blender will help prevent accidents in the kitchen.
Step 3
- Once mixed, squeeze out the fresh lime juice. Experiment with flavor and adjust the other spices as you like — more lime for tang, cane sugar for sweetness, or water until you reach your preference
Step 4
- Last, but certainly not least, add a few drops of cayenne powder for added heat. Serve your chamoy sauce immediately, or in a mason jar or airtight container for storage. A delightful meal!
Extra seasoning is optional, but I highly recommend it for a more authentic flavor.
